Politiko - the card game of Malaysian politics gameplay

Figure out an interesting card game for politicians that is very popular in Malaysia. You can also have fun with this when all the rules are clear. The gameplay is quite easy to follow. Check it out!

Gameplay

While the condition to win the game is simple, the mechanism to achieve it is quite complicated. Each player turn consists of three phases namely;

The prep phase - where players draw two cards from the main pile at the beginning of their turn.

The action phase - where players can either;
  • Declare Voter cards which meets the criteria stated on their party card; OR
  • Play up to two actions which mostly sees players playing a Scheme card to a target player, or to everyone at play
The effects phase - players resolve the effects of cards being played.
These steps repeat until someone successfully accumulates enough Voter cards to win. To add more drama and closely resemble real-life political scenario in Malaysia, alliances between players are allowed (more like encouraged) but this affects the winning conditions; 15 Voter cards are required for two-player alliances to win the game while a three-player alliance would require 21 Voter Cards to win.
